Card Text

As if mirroring its war-torn History, Vangoria's geography
portrays a landscape deeply scarred by rivers and moun-
tains. Years ago, the land was ruled by the mighty Sorceror-
Emperor Vangor from his palace at Constantia. Though he was
not a merciful man, it was a time of relative peace. But Vangor's
jealous heirs - triplet sons - schemed for the Emperor's throne.
Each sought his own power base by aligning himself with one of
the dominant forces in Vangoria: Justice, Evil and Chaos.
Vangor's death lit the fuse of war as the various factions battled
for power. Order broke down. Each of the triplets was forced
into hiding and took on a new identity. Constantia was reduced
to rubble. Vangor's crown was flung contemptuously into Lake
Mhingus by rampaging Battle Orcs. Vangoria's natural bound-
aries have subsequently divided the land into four provinces. In
the north, The Darklands are dominated by the Lord of
Darkness to the east and the wild Hill Goblin tribes to the west.
South-west of The Darklands lies Quaine, where the noble
Prince Gallant continues his crusade against Lord Vengeance
and his creations of evil. The eastern plains are home to the
Barbarian Warriors who remain locked in continual tribal wars.
The Barbarian Territories are a wilderness of demonic creatures
and savage warlords. And in the south, Zittonia is a province of
malice, ruled over by Zheena Nightshade, High Priestess of
Gargantua, god of evil. But Aragon Trueblade's forces of truth
have begun to weaken her hold. Welcome to Vangoria.
The Conflicts, Creatures, Quests,
and Sorcery which will shape its
future are now yours to command...

Card Text

The sole surviving heir of King Artemis the Just of
Stagcastle, Prince Lionheart has taken it unto
himself to continue his father's life-long campaign
to drive the forces of darkness from their strongholds in
the Jharn Peaks. From his hill fortress at the northern end
of Two League Canyon, he has been relentless in this
crusade. His personal courage has won the hearts of his
loyal troops, whom he has led to many victories against
both the Hill Goblins of the Skulltooth Caves to the south
and the Lord of Darkness' mindless Zombies to the north.
One of his most famous victories, Immortalized in this
painting, was over the Homunculids. These ferocious pale-
skinned creatures, feeders on human carrion, were on a
wild rampage westwards along the Painted Hills. When
Lionheart first heard of the invasion they had reached the
southern end of Two League Canyon and were following
the River Jharn upstream towards Stagcastle. Rapidly he
assembled a regiment of brave warriors and set off
southwards with himself in command. Their hearts sank
when they saw how hopelessly outnumbered they were by
the Homunculids. But undeterred, he led the charge. The
resulting carnage cost many human lives. Spurred on by
their leader's courage, the warriors slaughtered
all but a handful of the dreaded
creatures, who fled eastwards
back to the Barbarian Territories.

The departure of the happy-go-lucky Iain McCaig,
who recently left his home in The Darklands to seek
his fortune in the New World, is a sad loss to Vangoria. In
particular, his move has devastated Prince Lionheart who
had awarded him the title of Artisan Laureate of The
Darklands. Iain's distinctive water color technique, his
deep empathy with the arte of the fantastic and his ability
to portray the conflict between men and creatures with an
awesome sense of drama gained him immediate entry
into the Vangorian Guild of Brushmasters. His work has
appeared many times in the renowned Vangorian journal
of pastimes, 'White Dwarf and he illustrated numerous
'Fighting Fantasie' tomes scribed by the Living Ironstone.
His talents were also discovered by a band of wandering
minstrels known as 'Jethro Tull' and Iain's work adorned
their 'Broadsword' recording. Since leaving Vangoria with
the lovely Lady Leonore and their two young children, Iain
has settled in an area of the New World known as the
Valley of the Lost Angels and has immersed himself in
work for the moving Image sorcerers, 'Industrial Light and
Magic' but has recently achieved a personal
ambition to direct an animated
moving Image version
of 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice'.
